Celebrity Fight Night!
Celebrity Fight Night has a nearly 30-year history of engaging a global philanthropic community, funding nonprofit organizations. The annual Fight Night gala is a celebration of the spirit necessary to end cancer as we know it. It was thrusted into the national spotlight in its third year when Muhammad Ali accepted an invitation to be the featured guest. He remained the guest of honor for two decades, until his passing in 2016.
In 2010, I was honored to be involved with this amazing event, playing it with my former boss, Glenn Frey. It was a double-bill that night with David Foster and it was just an amazing evening. We went on after David's set and I remember as we played our show, Muhammad Ali sitting in the front row, along with a host of other celebrities, including the legendary Kris Kristofferson, Bo Derek and John Corbett and many others. What a crazy, amazing experience. We had a great show and afterwards, had a few cocktails with my dear friend, the great John 'JR' Robinson, who was playing with David and still works with him, to this day. John & I just met for lunch the other day and were remembering this gig, as he's about to embark on yet another appearance at this year's Fight Night gala.
Here's a link featuring "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Heartache Tonight" with Glenn from that night. So great that this footage is out there and makes me miss Glenn and those days so much. Click on the image below.
