World Drum Club Interview!
World Drum Club!
I go way back with this guy. Kalani & I have known each other for over 30 years now. We initially met when I signed him to his Paiste endorsement. Back then, he was busy touring with many various artists including Yanni, Kenny Loggins, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow and others. He’s written and produced over 20 instructional products, has released 4 original recordings under his own name and is a well-respected teacher and clinician, known world-wide. Kalani & I have played a lot together over the years – mainly in an improv percussion ensemble for yoga and dance classes, which has been not only fun but a great learning experience. Nothing like thinking on your feet, reacting in-the-moment to your surroundings and making music spontaneously. That work inspired me to create and produce my YouTube Web Series – “The Art Of Improv”, in which one of the episodes, Kalani & I, along with our good friend Rich Ferguson, are discussing the process of improv playing.
Kalani has a VERY popular YouTube channel with over 200,000 subscribers, called World Drum Club. On his channel, he produces and provides very useful, accessible and educational content on a variety of topics including playing drums, percussion, ukulele, Native-American flute, music therapy and music mindfulness. So, I’m very honored & excited that he recently asked me to be on his channel. We got into some fun stuff in this interview, including a glimpse at my upcoming 2nd album entitled “Dialogues”, which I’m so excited about.
I wanted to give a shout-out here since I neglected to do it in the interview, to my amazing music composing/producing partner – Jonathan J. Clark for really making my music a reality. He and I go back over 20 years, staring with our work together in Glenn Frey’s band, to today, where we’re creating a lot of great music. It’s because of him, that I’m able to have my own original music, so I’m very thankful. I’ll soon be releasing a new blog post, talking about our exciting new project together too, so stay tuned for that.
There’s also a tour of my studio space and a nice peak at all the groovy Gon Bops instruments I have on display there. My studio is also the Gon Bops showroom here in the States, so a big shout-out to this great company that I’m honored to work for and all the great people there! Great team! Check out all their social media content!
So, here's the video of my interview with Kalani. A huge thank you to him for having me and please check out his channel – so much good stuff on there!! Namaste.
